Our new tonic, SHARPEN, is in its final development phase. It is formulated to enhance cognitive function and memory via a formulation of nootropics, adaptogens, and non-cannabis-derived terpenes.
So what are Nootropics?
The term 'nootropics' is relatively recent. The name was coined in 1972 by Romanian chemist Corneliu Giurgea to describe compounds that could 'turn the mind' (from Greek, nous trepein). Giurgea considered that for any substance to be called a nootropic, it must:
- enhance memory and learning ability
- help the brain function under disruptive conditions
- protect the brain from harmful chemical damage
- improve neuronal firing mechanisms
Nootropics are not medicines: medicines bring you back to health when you're sick, nootropics help you improve when you're healthy.
What are adaptogens?
In a nutshell, adaptogens are non-toxic plants believed to help create resistance in the body to physical, chemical, and biological stressors that may cause illness and disease. Adaptogenic herbs have been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for thousands of years, consumed in food, tea, or made into a supplement to treat various ailments.
Unlike pharmaceuticals that often produce adverse side effects and may create many new problems even as they manage existing ones, the adaptogens must fundamentally make the body stronger without weakening or compromising its core systems.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are the secreted oils that are derived from plants. They are naturally created by plants as a repellent to ward off predators and attract pollinators.
There are 100's of terpenes, all of which have different effects when consumed. For example, some terpenes may cause you to feel less pain, lower the feeling of stress, or even provide some sedative relief.
